Leda Education Support Facility

Project Brief

The project involved the extension of an existing classroom at Leda Primary School. The facility was designed to cater for education support staff and primary-school aged students with disabilities. The work included the addition of a large, multi-purpose class room, a store room, tea preparation area and a disabled WC. Stringent site access protocol, including police clearances, principal and agent induction procedures and regular tool box meetings were a requirement of the works, due to the presence of staff and students during the construction phase. Parking was minimal and peak times for school pick-up and drop off posed safety issues, however secure fencing, hoarding and traffic management was put in place to minimise disruptions.

Project Description

The project was completed using steel portal framing with Florentine face brick cavity walls and red brick banding to match the existing class room. The structure incorporates a gabled Colorbond® steel roof with galvanised steel downpipes, and galvanised steel awnings with aluminium sun shades. The DWC area now caters for the needs of students by the inclusion of a disabled toilet, a duress alarm and a shower with flushing rim. The facility was also out-fitted with pin boards, bag hooks, window blinds, a microwave oven and a refrigerator. High pitched mini-strip ceiling and skylight installations adds to the amenability of the building.
